"I come from a proud family that has always worked hard and done what they said they would do. With over a decade of business leadership experience, I know what it takes to find solutions and get things done. We need to be creating more livable wage jobs, improving our schools, working on a solution to our healthcare, and getting our federal spending under control top priorities. And as your Congressman that's exactly what I'll do....GET THINGS DONE!"
LIST OF ISSUES
Our debt is over $19,000,000,000,000! And it's only going up! Spending in Washington is out of control. The answer is not to make cuts to the military, Medicaid, or any of the programs that either keeps us safe or millions of Americans depend on daily. Nor is it to simply raise taxes. We need to look at the US Government like it's a business, because that's exactly what it is, a business. What are we spending our money on, whom is it going to, and why are we spending it this way? Those are the questions we need to be asking. Every dollar should be accounted for, and when it's not there needs to be accountability. Congress should be forced to balance the budget. We need to get our spending under control now! This is not a burden we should be putting on our children.
Rising insurance premiums, rising deductibles, fees for not having insurance. Not really the direction that millions of Americans were expecting when Congress passed a law without reading it, "We have to pass it to find out what's in it" - Nancy Pelosi, 2010. Healthcare costs continue to rise! Our delegates should be there in Washington fighting on behalf of their constituents. But that's not what we have! The Post Office-BROKE; Social Security-BROKE; Medicaid and Medicare-BROKE!!! There is no reason the government should be running our healthcare system, nor should we let them. Rather than work together to find a solution to this problem Congress is bickering between one another. We need a bipartisan approach to reach a resolution. And we need to do it before the cost of healthcare is unaffordable for everyone!
17th!!! That's where the United States of America ranks in education in the world, and Missouri ranks 28 out of the 50 states! According to edweek.org, Missouri education is failing in the following categories: school accountability D-, K-12 achievement D, teaching proficiency D+, spending F, college readiness D-. Not all people learn the same way, and there is no cookie cutter way to teach. Graduation rates may be at historic highs, however, young Americans continually rank in the lower portion when it comes to literacy, math skills, and jobs skills. It's not a right to teach our children, it's a privilege! Just getting them pushed through the system does them no justice. Why are we falling behind? Why aren't our kids engaged? What do they feel is holding them back? Instead of just forcing these standards of Common Core on them, let's talk to them and find out the "why" behind the issue. The future of the United States is in our youth. We can't afford to let them fall behind the rest of the world at the rate they are!!
Veterans all over the country are going without the care they need! As a result, America's heros are committing suicide (at a rate of 22 PER DAY!!), contracting infectious diseases due to poor sanitary issues, seeing their benefits cut and issues receiving them, homeless, and dying from causes that are preventable. We owe it to these brave men and women, who VOLUNTEERED, to make sure they get the care they need and deserve. In Missouri, "more than 1,800 veteran patients of the St. Louis VA Medical Center may have been exposed to HIV and Hepatitis as a result of unsanitary dental equipment. The facility has remained under fire for patient deaths, persistent patient-safety issues and critical reports. Despite the problems at the medical center, the facility’s director from 2009 - 2013, Rima Ann Nelson, received nearly $25,000 in bonuses during her tenure there." - veterans.house.gov. And we're seeing this happen all over the country. I have one word for this...UNACCEPTABLE!! How long is it going to be before young men and women stop enlisting because they know what awaits them when they are done serving? How will we be able to defend ourselves? What happens when we are no longer viewed as a global powerhouse? These veterans made a commitment to the United States military and vice versa. They held up their end of the bargain (and would have faced disciplinary action had they not) why should the government not live up to their part!
